Model to assemble, made of laser-cut birch plywood with high precision. It is one of the simplest kits in the DAHIMO collection: few pieces, quick assembly, ideal even for beginners. It is put together using PVA glue (not included) and, once completed, becomes a light, elegant, and visually appealing object.
The model is inspired by the so-called “Leonardian bicycle”—a drawing discovered in the Codex Atlanticus, folio 133v, hidden between two glued pages during a restoration carried out in the 1960s. The drawing’s origin and authenticity remain debated: most scholars agree it was not made by Leonardo or his circle, but rather added later, probably in the 19th or even 20th century. It depicts a two-wheeled wooden-frame bicycle with pedals and a belt-driven mechanism, resembling early modern bicycles, which only appeared in the 1800s.
DAHIMO’s model recreates the general appearance of that drawing in a simplified and stylized form: the wheels are fixed, there is no transmission, and the model is not functional. It is not intended as a historical replica but rather as a decorative piece inspired by a widelyrecognized visual element often seen in Leonardo-related exhibitions and publications.
Easy to build and elegant to display, it is appreciated in museum bookshops as a small tribute to the visual culture of Renaissance invention.
