Octocedron Elevatus Vacuus

This model is part of DAHIMO’s “Il Sogno di Leonardo” series and is made of 4 mm birch plywood, precisely laser-cut. The triangular faces are assembled using PVA glue (not included), while the connectors fit tightly by pressure; gluing them is recommended for greater strength.

The kit contains 72 triangle segments and 72 connectors, totaling 144 pieces. As the model is built, it gradually takes shape in space, revealing a light, hollow, and symmetrical geometric structure.

It is a reinterpretation of the platonic octahedron, in which each of the eight triangular faces serves as a base for a small elevated tetrahedron, forming a crown of open airy pyramids. In sacred geometry, this shape is known as the Merkaba, a symbol of balance between opposing forces, regeneration, and the connection between earth and sky. It also echoes the famous “stella octangula” drawn by Leonardo in the plates of Luca Pacioli’s De Divina Proportione.

Once completed, the Octocedron Elevatus Vacuus becomes a true mathematical sculpture, ideal for display on a surface, in a showcase, or suspended to play with light and shadow. Popular in museum bookshops, it combines ease of construction with a striking visual presence.
