A true masterpiece of Renaissance mechanics in DAHIMO kit form, made from 4 mm birch plywood and 8 mm tanganika plywood, precisely laser-cut. The tanganika components are hand- finished with wax polish. Assembly requires PVA glue (not included). Though challenging, the project is thoughtfully designed to remain accessible to anyone with patience and a love for building.
This is the most complex model in the DAHIMO catalog: a complete mechanical system in miniature. The saw blade moves up and down while the sled advances with the log, all perfectly synchronized by the rotation of the paddle wheel, ideally powered by the flow of water, a fully functional and educational mechanism.
The design is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing in the Codex Atlanticus, folio 1078r, depicting a hydraulic saw equipped with a paddle wheel transmitting motion to both the blade and the sliding platform.
Educational and visually impressive, this model bridges engineering ingenuity with aesthetic beauty. It’s highly appreciated for making Leonardo’s mechanical vision understandable through hands-on experience. Ideal for schools, tech history lovers, collectors, and museum displays.
